The Soul Arch and Speed Trim!

In what I consider to be the best 2 turns of the year so far, Heath Joske's soul arch at J-Bay and Kelly's speed check at Cloudbreak are the essence of cool in surfing terms. The 1st clip is all time and what surfing is all about.....being in the moment! Go Heath! The 2nd is the King, Kelly "who else" Slater, who does a speed check on the inside section of Cloudbreak and into a HUGE snap on his back hand.... Both are as cool as hell and both are the hardest thing to pull off well when surfing...I love it!

Run Paul Run..!

There's a new strange twist in the saga of Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson, under house arrest in Germany, out on bail while awaiting extradition proceedings that could send him to Costa Rica to face charges stemming from a decade-old confrontation with illegal shark finners.

Media reports (CNN, The Local) say Watson has apparently violated terms of his bail, not reporting in to authorities this past Sunday. His whereabouts are currently unknown according to these reports.
His lawyer has told a German court that Watson has left Germany "for an unspecified destination."
In response, an official statement from the court: "Since by fleeing, Watson has shown that he cannot justify the trust placed in him, the extradition process has been restarted."

Watson has previously said that he would willingly return to Costa Rica to face the charges, but would not submit to pre-trial detention in Costa Rica as he has a $20,000+ bounty on his head, placed there by the so-called shark fin mafia, and he fears for his life. Costa Rica has guaranteed Watson's safety.
For more detail on Watson's detention, please see the links to the left.

Watson is, of course, one of the central figures in Animal Planet's Whale Wars series. TreeHugger has requests in for more information on Watson's location, and for clarification on the events in question. We'll update you as soon as we have the relevant info.

UPDATE (08:45pm July 25):
Sea Shepherd has confirmed that Paul Watson has indeed left Germany, though even the administration of Sea Shepherd seems to not know where Watson is at the moment:
“Captain Watson’s attorney reports he has left Germany,” said Susan Hartland, Administrative Director of Sea Shepherd. We have reason to believe from a reliable source that, once in Costa Rica, the Japanese Government may have sought extradition of Captain Watson to Japan to answer charges related to obstructing their illegal whaling activities in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. We have no further information and are not in touch with him. We will do our best to provide more details as we learn more. We will post any new information as it arrives and we are able to confirm its validity."

Red Bull Stratos Completes Final Practice Jump from 18 Miles Above Earth...

July 25, 2012, Felix Baumgartner completed the final milestone remaining before he attempts to achieve his dream of becoming the first person to break the speed of sound in freefall. According to preliminary data, his test jump from a 30 story tall helium balloon from an altitude of over 96,640 feet, seeing Felix execute a 3 minute, 48 second freefall jump reaching speeds of 536 mph.
Felix landed in a desert area of the U.S. state of New Mexico, just about 15 minutes by helicopter from his launch site at Roswell International Air Center. As the ecstatic team gathered in Mission Control to welcome his return, technical project director Art Thompson commented: “It’s hard not to get emotional about today. We are just so glad to have Felix back on the ground after a long week with significant weather challenges. The crew did a great job.”
The test launch was twice delayed due to thunderstorms, wind and rain. But the team of aerospace experts was never discouraged, well aware that even Space Shuttle launches sometimes faced several days of postponement. Felix's successful test is proof that patience pays off.
Today’s successful test, with a balloon over four times as large as the one that carried the pilot at the first test flight in March, delivered new insights for the progress of the project and also new research data for the benefit of aerospace research.
“It was a rough couple of days and an exhausting endeavor. I am now really excited. It has always been a dream of mine. Only one more step to go,” Baumgartner said after the successful landing.
Pending official data review and confirmation, the leap from over 96,640 feet takes Felix past Russia’s Yevgeny Andreyev (83,523 feet) to make him only the second man to have successfully completed a jump from such an altitude. His planned freefall from 120,000 feet would finally break the record of 102,800 feet set 52 years ago by the only man who has jumped from a higher altitude, Felix's mentor Joe Kittinger.
It is a proud day for the brand and for the entire organization. Significant media coverage is currently airing globally - in the USA with constant coverage nationally and locally on ABC News and with a breaking news wire release from the Associated Press.
Enjoy the photos below and be sure to share the success of the day with your networks from the images and videos on the website (www.redbullstratos.com), Facebook (www.facebook.com/redbull) and @RedBullStratos.
