Save the Reef...

When you join all the dots and see what the fossil fuel industry has planned for the Great Barrier Reef, you can't help but be outraged.

Coal and coal seam gas projects, dredging, pipelines and oil spills -- the threats to the Reef, and our land, are hard to believe.

Every Australian should know about this, so we've made this 3 minute video to put it all in context. Let's share it with workmates, neighbours, school-friends and send a simple message around Australia: Save the Reef.

World Environment Day - 05 JUNE 2012

Last year Gisele Bündchen beat Don Cheadle to rally the most green activities, but who will win this year? Check the World Environment Day challenge at http://www.wedchallenge.org to join in..

WED 2012, hosted by Brazil, is aimed to be the biggest, most widely celebrated global day for positive action on behalf of the environment.

In support of a smarter and more intelligent way of implementing sustainable development -- one that grows economies but with positive social and environmental outcomes-- this year’s theme is Green Economy: Does it include you?

The WED 2012 activity drive is a call to action to inspire the most activities ever recorded for WED. This is a big ask considering last year’s Challenge garnered a quadrupling in activity registration!

But the WED Community has proven time and again that we can keep building momentum and that the power of the individual voice is exponential when we are heard as a global chorus.

So to reward the amazing effort of all our committed individuals and groups, five fuel-efficient cars from Kia Motors will be given to winners in 5 categories.

A Critical Path...

Today the Climate Commission released it latest report, here are the key messages...

The Critical Decade: key messages

Over many decades thousands of scientists have painted an unambiguous picture: the global climate is changing and humanity is almost surely the dominant cause. The risks have never been clearer and the case for action has never been more urgent.

Our Earth’s surface is warming rapidly and we can already see social, economic and environmental impacts in Australia.

Failing to take sufficient action today entails potentially huge risks to our economy, society and way of life into the future. This is the critical decade for action.

The following points highlight the key messages arising from the accompanying report The Critical Decade:

1. There is no doubt that the climate is changing. The evidence is overwhelming and clear.
2. We are already seeing the social, economic and environmental impacts of a changing climate.
3. It is beyond reasonable doubt that human activities – the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation – are triggering the changes we are witnessing in the global climate.
4. This is the critical decade. Decisions we make from now to 2020 will determine the severity of climate change our children and grandchildren experience.

Rock the Gate CSG Free Event - 12th May Lismore

The push by big money in collusion with state and federal governments to force CSG mining onto the North Coast for corporate profit is meeting some resistance. Surprise, surprise.

There will be a huge rally mobilising and inspiring local opposition to CSG mining at Riverside Park in Lismore this Saturday, May 12, from 9am to 4pm.

Rock the Gate (nice pun on the Lock the Gate movement) will feature musicians, poets, speakers and comedians who are donating their talent and time to this essential cause.

The resistance in this area has inspired performers from far afield as well as local ones to give their time.
Dubmarine and Steady Eddy are both coming from Queensland to support the cause.

The music starts at 9am. There'll be a march starting from Riverside Park at 10.20am and then progressing through the CBD. After that the entertainment restarts (11.20am) and continues till 4pm.
Big day. Big issue. Be there.

Performing acts include Dubmarine, OKA, Round Mountain Girls, Rene Simone featuring Raz Bin Sam, Mick McHugh, Mandy Nolan, Jimmy Willing & Davey Bob, Ramsay, Steady Eddy, Monkey and the Fish, Luke Vassella, Peter Lehner and the Winsome Gospel Choir, Andrea Soler, Nathan Peachy, Rhett Brambleby, Inside Outlaw, Back Deck Music, Barkersvale Brothers, Strangers Inc, and Rebecca Rushbrook.
