FRESH MULLET gets pH levels explained by Daniel Ross

Acid vs Alkaline...

FM - Hey Daniel Ross. We know your a health nut and fitness freak, but can you please explain what Acid and Alkaline is for average Joe?

DR - Yeah its so simple! A healthy human body has a pH level of about 6.7, levels lower indicates that the body is becoming acidic which ultimately results in toxicity which quickly leads to degenerative disease and worse.. As the body ages or is put under severe stress etc it loses the ability to create an alkaline balance to counteract the acid build up, so you age quicker, recover slower and DIE.. I drink alkaline water to help the process and cos I'm petrified of dieing, haha...
FM - So whats this strange vessel you drink from?

DR - Its the ALKAWAY Alkapod, you pour tap or bottled water into it, leave it for a couple of minutes and then alkaline levels have been increased. It really helps with recovery from training and surf niggles, but most importantly it cleanses you every time you drink from it...
But the ultimate way to alkaline your body daily is with the ALKAWAY Alphion, a unit that hooks up to your municipal water and micro filters, ionises, micro-clusters and alkalises. Its so good for home but a little too big to travel easily.
The guys at ALKAWAY have the best site to study up on all the benefits, its seriously the very best way to stay fit and healthy.

FM - Thanks Dan and all the best for the rest of the Triple Crown

DR - Thanks Fresh Mullet and BTW ALKAWAY have some sweet Christmas deals going, don't miss out...

This Photo is ARCING Amazing!

For those who can't or don't recognise arguably the best dam set-up bottom turn in the business, Tom Curren continues showing everyone how its done... one word...

Charisma (meaning "gift," "of/from/favored by God/the divine") is a trait found in individuals whose personalities are characterized by a powerful charm and magnetism (attractiveness), along with innate and markedly sophisticated abilities of interpersonal communication and persuasion. One who is charismatic is said to be capable of using their personal being, rather than just speech or logic alone, to interface with other human beings in a personal and direct manner, and effectively communicate an argument or concept to them.

TC lets his surfing do the talking.

Yamba Boys :)

All the boys from home got together for a big cook up on the beach at Pipeline . Such a fun afternoon.
Me and Kendal surfed Pipe, Backdoor and Off the Wall with no one out ! Haha, how good !
I rode Lauries 9'6 Waimea Gun - Kendal was on a 5'6.

Death of the Oceans?

An absolute must see for any one who has a love affair with the Oceans.

A hard hitting documentary by Sir David Attenborough, The Death of the Oceans is airing on SBS1 this Tuesday night the 30th of November2010 at 7.30pm, put it in your diary and tell everyone...

Here's part 1 of 4 if you don't live in Australia. You can find the rest on Youtube... get inspired!

The facts – today, four billion years after they were formed, our oceans continue to dictate life on earth, David explains. That's unsurprising when you realise that with an area of 360 million square kilometres, the world is actually more than 70 per cent water.
Without oceans, life would never have come about.
Yet, us humans are doing our darnedest to mess things up.
Fish stocks have been drying up for decades, largely due to our giant ships, hi-tech sonar and nets as long as 60 kilometres. And still we plunder the seas at will.
Air transit and polystyrene cooler boxes have made any kind of living creature from the sea available anywhere else in the world within 24 hours.
Such pressure is having a profound effect on this eco-system, says David.
Pass it on and lets get active kids, its our most precious Worldly asset!!!

Play it again Sam...

When I posted this amazing song a few weeks back I forgot to mention the most beautiful part...

Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu is not only talented, he's connected, he sings like an Angel, he's self taught, he plays his guitar upside down and he's BLIND!

This time its with subtitles, so watch with fresh eyes and listen with fresh ears. Enjoy the connection to Sunset... Prepare to be haunted ;-)

Insight... Blind man can see..

My wife works at a High School around the area that has one thousand students and covers an area about one square mile.
She came home two days ago and told me about a student that enrolled from outa town. The boy was born with no eyes and has never ever had the chance to see this beautiful world we live on.
I don't know his name, but the story my wife told me has absolutely blown my mind.
The boy was taken to school and lead around every corridor, every room, every part of the school grounds for four hours total, not four days, not four months, four hours!
He went to school the next day unaided and was able to remember the WHOLE SCHOOL and to this day has no problem getting himself to class.
Imagine trying to get yourself safely around your home for four hours without the privilege of being able to see. Just the thought of it gives me a brain freeze and makes me think of how many special people are out there just doing their thing.

Thought this was worth sharing......... Get busy living people and have a good time doing it.... Nav

Imagine...

Imagine if John Lennon was still kicking and if he was on the North Shore of Hawaii, I reckon it would sound a little something like this FRESH ukulele cover...

I'm sure John would be tapping his feet. It would have been his 70th Birthday on the 9th of October...

Peace

Watch me pull a Mullet out of my hat...

This 6'1 i got off Christiaan Bradley has turned out to be such a magic little thing!
Here it is in action the other day .. definitely ordering a couple more of these :)

The ONE Wave Heat at Haleiwa, Hawaii...

Its not very often you get through a heat on one scoring wave :)
This is one of my favorite waves from the Haleiwa event last week. I waited 20 minutes for it!
Its such a fun break to compete at, but can be one of the hardest waves to read at this size.
Semi finals is the best result i've had here! - Awesome start to the triple crown!
Bring on the swell for the next two :)
This 6'8 Swallow Tail i got off Glenn Pang feels amazing !

Yeeeeeewww

Bit out of control on this one haha :)

YambaOrganics.com links up...

YambaOrganics.com has officially become part of the Northern Rivers Food Links

A project assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Environment Trust in an effort to dramatically reduce carbon emissions via reducing or eliminating unnecessary Food Miles and to greatly reduce dependency on centralised food supply chains, amongst many other things, essentially ensuring and securing a sustainable food future for the region and Australia.

Much fresh produce is sent to to major cities only to be repackaged and sent back at even higher price point, which really is a pointless activity and contributes heavily to raising carbon emissions.

YambaOrganics.com is very happy to be part of the initiative and to be part of the solution.

Peace, Power, Passion

DR Rice Bubbles... SNAP, CRACKLE, POP!

How to snap a board in 3 with Daniel Ross...

DR had been surfing Off The Wall by himself getting a few closeouts, when he decided to give Banzai Pipe a bash...

Surfing a brand new 6'5 Dahlberg, Dan paddled in to this chunky slab... Needless to say Pipe gave Dan and his Dahly a bash...

Here's what Dan had to say, "My 6'5 was in 3 pieces after this one :)  .. only way to learn hey! I swam in , ran up to the Billabong house and grabbed one of Laurie's (Towner's) boards. He gave me a tip on how to surf the place and i was back out there for more."

Peace Pipe :)

The REBIRTH of EVOLUTION.

Wayne Lynch is one of best examples of the pure-bred evolutionary surfer, one of that small group who pushed the sport through perhaps its greatest shift of skill -- from the longboard stateliness of the early '60s to the full-bore creativity of the shorter-board '70s and beyond.
Lynch was born and raised in the small coastal town of Lorne in Victoria, Australia, some 25 miles southwest of the famous Bells Beach.
Like many young Aussies of the time he was in the surf almost from infanthood, riding rubber inflatable mats at the age of six in the small, clean beachbreaks of the area. Wayne won the Australian junior title four years running between 1967 and 1970.
In Paul Witzig's movie, Evolution, released in 1969, Lynch, along with Ted Spencer and Nat Young are captured at work on surfing’s massive leap forward in style, carving turns from the lip to the base and connecting them in combination as had nobody in surfing history.
Lynch is a master craftsman in the world of surfboard shaping.

Evolution has been digitally remastered.

Mark Mathews.....

Here's another Fresh Mullet exclusive, Mark Mathews is the kinda guy we here at FM head quarters get stoked on. Mark loves surfing, turns his dreams into reality, works hard and gives to others which is what its all about. Read on and draw inspiration......

FM: How was that last session you had in West Oz?
MM: It was nuts! Biggest swell of the year down there. But I hurt my knee second wave. I managed too get a couple fun ones before it got too sore though.

FM: What have you been doing in London?
MM: Corporate training programs. We built a virtual surfing program called sea of change. We use it to teach relationship and teambuilding skills
Sustained performance and dealing with fear and stress etc.. Kinda hard too explain. It's at peakteams.com

FM: You got a message to any young surfers out there about why it is you train, and work on all the areas - physical /emotional and mental. and/or how it has influenced your life and career .
MM: I'm not the most talented surfer but I've managed to still make a career out of surfing. I did it by training harder and putting in more effort in than everyone around me. I get too live the dream now. Getting to surf for a living. All the extra training was worth it!

Clash Of The Legends!

The Clash Of the Legends heat was held in 6-8ft perfect Haleiwa the other day .
Tom Carrol , Occy ,Tom Curren and Sunny were tearing the place to bits, pushing each other and showing the tour how the 8ft rip bowl should be surfed .
For me it was one of the best heats i have ever seen! I was so excited just being able to watch it and I know that when the surf picks up again on sunday i will be aiming to draw similar lines .
A Tom Curren carve into the barrel, or one of those backside jams that Occ throws down is what its all about.. pure surfing !!
Jump online this sunday and watch the icons go at it in their final heat!
It will be mental.

EVOLUTION The Film

FRESHMULLET.com is thrilled to announce that EVOLUTION, the first film classic of the shortboard era, is being remastered and the rebirth is happening very soon!

First released around 1970, the film follows the revolutionary development of surfing’s new era and features the young Wayne Lynch with Nat and Ted Spencer.

Set on a world stage of Australian, European and Hawaiian locations, the impact of these upcoming Australian champions on world surfing is hard to under estimate.

How good is Wayne Lynch's hack in the poster above!

Stay tuned for more as it unfolds....

Part 1 - Boycott McDonald's in Yamba

What a joke that McDonald's got passed by Clarence Valley Council... Here's a summary;
  1. Almost 5000 signatures on a petition in a town of only 7000 people.
  2. Almost 500 letters to the Council strongly apposed to the development.
  3. An unprecedented 23 deputations to the Councils and still they passed it...
I thought that the elected council was meant to be the voice of the people..

Anyway, the joke continues. Here's an up date...

At almost the speed of light the build is almost ready for December opening, but how funny to hear that the entire inside had to be redone, as the roof caved in, paint stripped off and air conditioned duck fell off, plus heaps more apparently...

You wouldn't catch me anywhere near the joint, especially when its been put together so hastily to try and make some quick cash before Christmas...

My advise is to strongly boycott and support truly local eateries that have real family values and get everyone you know to do the same!

We need to look after each other, lets run them out of town kids!

Peace, Power, Passion!

SALT is key

Salt is one of the most misunderstood and misjudged nutrients on the face of the earth.

Generally, people don't know whether Salt is good or bad for them because it has been the subject of mass campaigns of deceit and lies for decades in order to support the sale of drugs.

The fact is that salt offers profound and vital health and healing benefits. Please don't mistake me when I talk about salt. Avoid refined, commercially prepared salt which leads to problems. Instead, go for one of the several varieties of high quality, naturally prepared, sun evaporated salts that are out there.

Try a quarter of a teaspoon in with half a lemon tea upon rising each morning...

SALT converts to CALCIUM in the body, just as occurs on the bottom of the ocean floor when sunlight shines into salt water.  The entire ocean floor is covered in calcium (coral, seashells are ALL calcium).

So don't be fooled that you need more dairy products to provide the nutrients for strong, healthy bones.  Your intake of high quality salt is the #1 most critical nutrient.

Rememberence Day Poppy

At the 11minute, of the 11th hour of the 11th day, we will remember them...

Lest we Forget.

It would have also been the late Graham Fisher's Birthday today, RIP GF.

10th World Title... What next?

Celebrating yet another Championship victory and the unprecedented 10th World Title, Kelly Slater salutes the crowd.

Surfing really is witnessing an amazing time, only last week we were celebrating the inspirational life and tragic loss of a true World Champion in Andy Irons...

Today we contemplate whats going to happen now and in the future...

Fast approaching the end of 2010 we are wrapping up the first decade of a new Millennium and entering the second, going bigger, higher, faster. longer than ever before...

TEN is a very interesting number kit just keeps on reoccurring, as it not only completes a cycle, but starts a new one... Birth...Life... Death...Rebirth... Evolution...

Heading into the final leg of the ASP World Tour, Hawaii the homeland of Surfing honours statesman Andy Iron whilst celebrating another and with the 2010 World Title already decided its sets the scene for endless possibilities and new beginnings!

Its going to be super interesting to see what unfolds.

Peace

Green & GOLD in Black & White

My good mate Laurie Towner and his Girl Bron had this drawing hand delivered  to me here in Puerto Rico.
I have been on the road since the 5th of September and to get refreshed with some love from home was such a good feeling !
A friend handed it to me after my first round heat, i was a  pissed off that i lost , and this instantly cheered me up .
I've got it up on the wall in my room...To me -- this stuff is GOLD!

Thanks guys.
